The first day of summer has come and gone, but so has the first half of 2018. Many people use the midpoint of the year to evaluate the goals that they set and see what needs to be added, removed or adjusted. It seems like the first half has flown by, with the exception of January. It’s my turn to evaluate my 2018 so far. Here’s to me answering the age-old question: What have I been up to?
Summer Classes. Internships. Work.
I never thought I would’ve wished for another summer of just doing absolutely nothing. With the last year of undergrad coming full speed ahead, I realize that I should cherish the summers. This will probably one of the last times all of my friends are even remotely close. The difference in grad school programs and internships will either put us all over the country. However, each summer, I love Athens just a little bit more. it’s quiet enough. The restaurants have low wait times and I can take the city in for what it is: eccentric. Plus, you get to venture out and try new places without the rush of other people.
I wasn’t hiding my summer body from the world. I was hiding the world from my summer body.
Shoutout to Drake for what will be probably the most used play on words. But seriously, when I’m not dealing with the previously mentioned tasks, I workout. I have always been able to get one workout in each day (mostly a run), but I’ve started introducing two-a-days and this has been one of the most rewarding journeys I have been on. I’ve seen some results and I really like the schedule I’m on because I always feel great afterward (plus I always sleep well).
Reevaluation of My Life.
I saw a tweet that basically called me out. It said “when you finally see how other people see you, then you’ll change”. LOL. I needed that. I think that was God’s way of telling me “Get it Together”. So that’s what I did. I took a break from social media and focused. I always claimed that I didn’t have time for things, but I realized, I didn’t schedule my priorities. So I wrote down all the things I wanted to do and loved to do. I cleared my schedule and started from scratch. I realized that this also came with me learning to tell people no. I have never enjoyed saying no so much.
Preparing for the next chapter
We are 310 days away from graduation *screams internally*. I’m excited, but nervous at the same times. Preparing for the LSAT, grad school options, other post-grad opportunities and so much more. I’m moving into my first apartment next year. I;ve starting to become apart of spaces that I could have only dreamed of. I’m becoming more of the person I’ve envisioned for myself. I’m praying for great things to happen this semester.
The summer has been pretty quiet, but I wouldn’t want it any other way. My posts will be a little bit more frequent just because I have plenty of stuff for the new college students to read. So, enjoy your 4th of July with some good barbeques. Stay safe out here.
